POREČ, Croatia – After more than 18 months of intensive construction, the new Pical Resort 5* has officially opened in Poreč, marking the most significant tourism investment in Croatia in recent years and a flagship project for Valamar Riviera.

The first guests arrived in mid-March as part of the resort’s “Be the First” opening campaign, while strong occupancy is already expected for the upcoming Easter holidays. Early booking figures also point to strong demand throughout the season, particularly in the pre-season and post-season.

A key driver of this interest is the resort’s MICE offering, centred around the Pical Event Centre, the largest congress venue in Istria with capacity for up to 1,200 participants.

By the start of summer, the resort is expected to employ more than 800 staff, with the majority already engaged in the hotel’s operational activities.

Preparations for delivering five-star service standards began well before the opening. Staff training programmes started over a year ago, underlining the ambition behind the project to establish the highest levels of hospitality and service quality.

Some parts of the resort, including the beach area, seaside promenades and the Purobeach concept, are currently in the final phase of construction. These are scheduled to open during May, while a formal grand opening for partners and the public is planned for June.

The hotel features 514 accommodation units and already offers a wide range of facilities designed to create a comprehensive holiday experience.

Family-friendly facilities are a major focus. Among the highlights is PlayLand, a 1,200-square-metre family entertainment and learning centre offering creative, educational and recreational activities for children of all ages.

Additional facilities include a Fun Zone with playgrounds and the well-known Maro Club programmes developed by Valamar Riviera, providing tailored activities for children and families.

Wellness is another central element of the resort experience. ESPA at Pical, the first spa concept of its kind in Croatia, opened alongside the hotel and offers a premium wellness experience.

The resort’s culinary offer is also being strengthened through collaborations with renowned chefs and brands. In addition to three main hotel restaurants, new dining concepts are being introduced across the destination.

Earlier this month, the restaurant JAZ by Ana Roš opened on the Poreč waterfront, led by celebrated chef Ana Roš. Meanwhile, this week sees the opening of Harry’s Piccolo Poreč, located within the resort itself.

The restaurant is a collaboration with chefs Matteo Metullio and Davide De Pra, whose restaurant in Trieste holds two Michelin stars.
