PHOTOS: Patrol boat sails from Osijek to Vukovar to mark 25th anniversary of Operation Storm

ZAGREB, Aug 5 (Hina) – Sailing from Osijek to Vukovar, the crew of the Croatian Army river patrol boat “Sokadija” marked the 25th anniversary of the military and police operation Storm, Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day and the Day of Croatian Veterans, the Defence Ministry reported on Wednesday.

Members of the riverboat company sailed out from Vrbik port in the eastern city of Osijek on August 4 with 11 crew and after more than 12 hours of sailing east on the Drava River and along the state border on the Danube River, they berthed at the river port in Vukovar.

The boat sailed past the villages of Batina, Aljmas, Erdut and Dalj – communities that suffered during the Homeland War, sailing more than 150 kilometres along the Danube, the ministry said in a press release.

Special honours and boat sirens at memorial cross at Vuka and Danube river mouth

The crew lined up on the specially decorated boat to pay their respects with special honours and sounding the boat’s sirens at the memorial cross at the place where the River Vuka flows into the Danube.

The boat’s captain, Frigate Lieutenant Hrvoje Milkovic, said that by coming to Vukovar the crew wished to pay their respects to the victims of the Homeland War but also to share the joy of victory with Vukovar and its residents.
