Zagreb has welcomed its first new tram in 15 years, produced by Croatian company KONČAR – Električna vozila d.d.
The modern low-floor tram is now operating on line 1, connecting Zapadni kolodvor and Borongaj.
The official launch was attended by Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomašević, Deputy Mayor Luka Korlaet, ZET Chairman Marko Bogdanović, and Damir Šoštarić from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport, and Infrastructure.

“This is the first tram fleet renewal in 15 years, and I am proud that these trams are produced by a Zagreb-based company. They represent Croatian innovation and production. A total of 80 new trams will be delivered, with 20 arriving by the end of this year,” said Mayor Tomašević.

Over €200 million will be invested in modernising the tram network.
The new short low-floor trams will operate on lines 1, 3, 8, and 13. The contract for the first 20 trams is valued at €47.2 million, funded through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, with support from the Ministry of Transport and the Central Agency for Financing and Contracting.
Zagreb’s tram system has a rich history, with the first tracks laid almost 130 years ago. The introduction of modern trams is a major step toward enhancing public transport and reinforcing Zagreb’s status as a modern European metropolis.
