ZAGREB, 8 October 2021 – Tereza37 by director Danilo Šerbedžija has been selected as the Croatian candidate for best international feature film at the Oscars.

Every year, the Croatian Film Workers’ Association selects a feature film that will represent Croatia at Oscars in the category of best foreign international film.

The film, which stars and is written by Lana Barić and directed by Šerbedžija, is set in Split on Croatia’s Dalmatian coast and is a drama about a 37-year-old woman, Tereza, who decides to change her stale marriage and find her piece of happiness.

The film won the Golden Arena Prize in Pula last year for best Croatian film, best director and best script, and also the audience award at the 2020 Zagreb Film Festival.

Tereza37 premiered internationally at the 36th Warsaw International Film Festival. Since then, the film has been shown at festivals around the world, including in USA, Sweden, Spain, France and Italy where it has won a number of awards and prizes.

The film most recently won best screenplay at the Otranto Film Festival. Šerbedžija also won the annual national Vladimir Nazor Award in the field of film art for Tereza37.

The 94th Oscars will be held on March 27 at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood.
