Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Spatial Planning, Construction and State Assets, Branko Bačić, visited Orebić this week, marking the start of a major cadastral survey and the opening of a new water supply system for the Gornja Sela area of Viganj.
The minister began his visit at the Maritime Museum in Orebić, where he formally launched the cadastral survey works.
He was joined by Antonio Šustić, Director General of the State Geodetic Administration, Dubrovnik-Neretva County Prefect Blaž Pezo, and Orebić Mayor Tomislav Ančić.
The project is part of Croatia’s 2025 Annual Programme of Cadastral Surveys, covering 3,249 land parcels and 890 buildings across 103 hectares. Valued at €910,318.75, the works will be carried out by Geoprojekt Zagreb 20 d.o.o.
“This is a historic day for Orebić, such a comprehensive survey has not been conducted for nearly two centuries,” said Minister Bačić.
He explained that the updated records would enhance property values, ownership transparency and investor confidence, ultimately supporting economic growth and access to EU funding.
The Orebić survey forms part of the Multi-Year Programme of Cadastral Surveys (2021–2030), aimed at modernising records across 600,000 hectares of construction land nationwide. The government has so far allocated €401 million to this effort, with €18.5 million invested in the Dubrovnik-Neretva region alone.

Later in the day, Minister Bačić attended the official opening of the new water pipeline in Viganj, which now provides running water to around 70 households for the first time.
Funded through the EU’s Recovery and Resilience Plan 2021–2026, the €1.85 million project was completed within 18 months, constructing nearly 5 kilometres of new water mains.
“Access to water is essential for life, tourism and agriculture. This project brings long-overdue relief and opportunity to the people of Viganj,” Bačić said.
The works were carried out by Vodotehnika d.d., with Hidroprojekt-ing d.o.o. overseeing supervision and Subnecto d.o.o. managing the project, the ministry said in its statement.
