Northern Croatian City Introduces Public Electric Bike Share

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAA great initiative from the council of the northern Croatian city of Čakovec. The city is one of the first in the country to introduce a public electric bike network…

Public bike stations have become popular in a number of cities and towns across Croatia, but Čakovec is the first to introduce the electric bike share system. All of the bikes for the 100,000 euros project are manufactured by local Croatian company Ducati. The project has been co-financed (40%) by the EU’s Environmental Protection & Energy Efficiency fund.

The electric bikes travel at speeds of up to 25km/h and are ideal for those needing to get around town with the hassle of traffic and parking.

“I am extremely proud that Čakovec is one of the first cities in Croatia where people will have a chance to use electric bikes. Two stations have been opened and people can rent the bikes for one hour at a time. I want to thank the EU’s Environmental Protection & Energy Efficiency fund for supporting the project,” said the city’s Mayor Stjepan Kovač.
