Niagara Falls will once again feature a special light display in honour of Croatia’s Statehood Day.
On Thursday, 29 May, the falls will be illuminated in red, white, and blue — the colours of the Croatian flag.
The lighting will take place at 10:00 p.m. local time on the Canadian side, organised by the Niagara Falls Illumination Board in coordination with the Croatian Consulate General in Mississauga.
Croatia celebrates Statehood Day on 30 May, marking the date in 1990 when the first multi-party parliament was formed, laying the foundation for the country’s independence.
The process towards independence formally began in 1991, following a referendum where the majority of voters chose to leave the former Yugoslavia.
Niagara Falls, made up of three waterfalls, stretches across the US-Canada border and is a well-known site for national day tributes from countries around the world.

Since 2021, Niagara Falls has shone in the colours of Croatia to mark Statehood Day on both Canadian and US sides.
The US side was realised at the initiative of the Consulate General of the Republic of Croatia in New York with the support of the Croatian Tourist Board.
