New bridge near Split takes shape as construction reaches major milestone

SOLIN, 20 September 2026 – Construction of the new Jadro Bridge at the Širina junction in Solinn is progressing, with 576 cubic metres of concrete installed during the first three weeks of work under contractor Texo Molior.

Around 50 workers, engineers and other members of the construction team are currently working on the project, which is part of the reconstruction of the important traffic junction connecting Solin with Split and the surrounding area.

If the current pace continues, the total volume of concrete installed since Texo Molior took over the construction site is expected to exceed 1,000 cubic metres by the end of next week.

Construction is currently taking place simultaneously at five locations where the future bridge piers will be built.

Depending on the stage of each location, teams are carrying out excavations, installing steel reinforcement and constructing formwork for the concrete elements.

This approach allows different stages of construction to progress at the same time, while new sections are prepared for concrete pouring.

The work currently focuses on the lower structure of the bridge, which will provide the foundations and supports for the future steel bridge structure.

Of the concrete installed so far, 280 cubic metres have been poured into one of the foundations, while a further 240 cubic metres have been used in a concrete element connecting the bridge piles, or deep foundations. Another 56 cubic metres have been installed in the final load-bearing sections of the piers.

The lower structure will eventually provide the supports on which the steel span of the bridge will rest.

Steel structure to follow

The next stages will include completing the remaining foundations and connecting elements, followed by construction of the bridge piers and their upper sections.

At the same time, detailed designs required for the production and installation of the steel structure are being prepared.

Once this stage is completed, the project will move into steel procurement, workshop fabrication and corrosion protection. The prepared components will then be transported to the construction site, assembled into larger sections and installed on the completed supports.

This means that progress on the bridge involves both the visible construction work at the site and the preparation of the steel structure that will be installed at a later stage.

The Širina junction is an important daily route for residents of Solin, Split and surrounding areas.

As construction progresses, coordination between the works and nearby traffic will therefore remain an important part of the project.

Some phases of construction will require changes to traffic arrangements. Texo Molior, in coordination with the investor, Hrvatske ceste, says it will provide information about planned works and their potential impact on traffic in advance.

The aim is to allow residents and other road users to plan their journeys accordingly.

The first phase of the project includes completion of the new bridge, with a planned construction period of 12 months.
