In a joint initiative by HŽ Passenger Transport and Slovenian Railways, a new international train service will be launched this summer.
The service will reconnect Zagreb, Ljubljana and Pula by rail for the first time in more than 30 years.
Starting on 20 June 2025, and running until the end of the current timetable on 13 December 2025, a new direct train will operate every weekend between the three cities.
The train will depart Zagreb every Friday, travelling via Ljubljana to Pula, and return on Sundays in the opposite direction.
This marks the first direct rail connection between these cities since the early 1990s and is set to improve cross-border mobility and sustainable travel in the region.
The service will be operated by a modern, low-floor train from Slovenian Railways, offering 171 seats.
Designed for comfort and accessibility, the train includes facilities for wheelchair users, space for bicycles and prams, free Wi-Fi, and a modern passenger information system. It can reach speeds of up to 140 km/h.
In addition to the existing six daily trains between Zagreb and Ljubljana, two more connections will be added on Fridays and Sundays from 20 June, further strengthening rail links between Croatia and Slovenia.
According to HŽ Passenger Transport, the introduction of these new lines supports regional connectivity and promotes sustainable travel at affordable ticket prices.
From 21 June, two additional trains will also run every Saturday between Pula and Divača. Furthermore, between 28 June and 31 August, four seasonal cross-border trains will connect Buzet and Divača.
Train timetables and ticket prices can be found on the official HŽ Passenger Transport website here.
