New direct train from Poland to Croatia set to start

Poland-Croatia train

From this summer, Croatia’s coastline will become even more accessible to Polish tourists – thanks to a brand-new direct train service.

Polish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Dariusz Klimczak, has confirmed that a direct rail connection from Warsaw to the Adriatic will begin operating on 1 July.

The move aims to strengthen tourism ties between the two countries

The train is expected to run directly from Warsaw to Rijeka, with the possibility of extending the route to Split, Rijeka Danas writes.

Ticket prices will be kept low, with one-way fares costing under €50 (around 200 Polish zloty). This will make it one of the most affordable travel options for Polish holidaymakers heading to the Croatian coast.

Interestingly, the same pricing will apply in the reverse direction, allowing Croatian citizens to travel to Poland just as easily and affordably. This two-way link is expected to encourage not only tourism but cultural exchange as well.

Plans for a rail connection between Croatia and Poland have been in discussion since 2021. At that time, a promotional train was even scheduled to carry Polish officials and journalists.

However, the project was postponed due to pandemic-related complications.

Now, three years later, the idea is finally becoming a reality – and just in time for the busy summer season.

Poland has become one of Croatia’s most important tourist markets. In 2023, over one million Polish tourists visited the country, recording 6.4 million overnight stays. For several years now, Polish travellers have outnumbered Czech visitors on the Croatian coast.

Polish tourists are highly valued – they are young, economically stable, travel frequently, and appreciate quality service. Croatia consistently ranks in the top 5 favourite holiday destinations for Poles, alongside Italy, Greece, and Spain.
