Continuing the successful “Croatian Literature” coin series, the Croatian National Bank (HNB), in collaboration with the Croatian Mint, is set to release new commemorative coins featuring one of the most important figures in Croatian cultural and literary history – Marija Jurić Zagorka.
Zagorka made a lasting mark on Croatian literature with her historical novels and newspaper feuilletons.
Some of her most beloved works include The Witch of Grič, The Daughter of Lotrščak, and Gordana.
Through her storytelling, she brought history closer to the public, especially women, while subtly addressing important social issues.
More than just a writer, Zagorka is remembered as a bold and fearless woman who challenged the prejudices and restrictions of her time.
Today, she stands as an icon of Croatian cultural and social history, continuing to inspire new generations.
The commemorative coins come in two high-quality versions:
• A 1-ounce gold coin, with a face value of €100, limited to just 100 pieces
• A 1-ounce silver coin, with a face value of €4, limited to 1,000 pieces

The coin design was created by artist Jelena Mavrić Varga, who captured the strength and determination of Zagorka through a striking portrait on the coin’s obverse.
