New cancer treatment technology coming to Croatia

Accela system (Siemens Healthineers)

ZAGREB, 2 October 2026 – A new generation of radiotherapy technology is set to arrive in Croatia, with installation of Siemens Healthineers’ newly presented Accela system scheduled to begin at Radiochirurgia Zagreb in November.

The Zagreb specialist hospital will become the first medical institution in Europe to install the new system, according to Radiochirurgia Zagreb.

Accela has been developed around Siemens Healthineers’ NeoArc technology and is designed to make complex radiotherapy and radiosurgery procedures faster while maintaining high levels of precision.

One of its features is the ability to perform stereotactic treatment during a single breath-hold, while the system has also been designed to reduce the time patients spend undergoing radiotherapy procedures.

The technology combines several components, including advanced imaging and a redesigned multi-leaf collimator used to shape radiation during treatment.

Radiochirurgia Zagreb says the system is expected to expand the hospital’s capabilities in advanced oncology treatment.

The installation comes as the Zagreb hospital marks its tenth year of operation.

The hospital is also a member of the Cleveland Clinic Connected programme and has developed cooperation with international medical and technology institutions.

Accela was developed through collaboration involving Siemens Healthineers and teams from major international cancer research institutions, including Mayo Clinic, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, University Hospital Zurich and Cleveland Clinic, among others.

The company says the system is designed to improve the speed and scalability of complex radiotherapy procedures.

For Croatia, the installation represents another development in the country’s growing use of advanced medical technology.

Radiochirurgia Zagreb has previously introduced other advanced imaging and treatment technologies and says the new system will provide patients in Croatia and the wider region with access to newer radiotherapy capabilities.

The installation is expected to begin in November, with the system becoming part of the hospital’s radiotherapy and radiosurgery infrastructure.
