Modrić Nominated for FIFA World Team of the Year

Last week the Real Madrid maestro was shortlisted for UEFA’s Team of the Year, now the 29-year-old former Dinamo Zagreb player has been nominated for FIFA’s World Team of the Year. Football’s governing body have named 15 midfielders in contention for the World Team of the Year, which will be announced on 12 January at FIFA’s Golden Boot Awards.

There are 3 places up for grabs in the midfield of the side that will be picked in a 4-3-3 formation. Here are the midfield contenders along with Modrić.

Xabi Alonso (Spain/Bayern), Angel Di Maria (Argentina/Manchester United), Cesc Fabregas (Spain/Chelsea), Eden Hazard (Belgium/Chelsea), Xavi Hernandez (Spain/Barcelona), Andres Iniesta (Spain/Barcelona), Toni Kroos (Germany/Real Madrid), Mesut Ozil (Germany/Arsenal), Andrea Pirlo (Italy/Juventus), Paul Pogba (France/Juventus), James Rodriguez (Columbia/Real Madrid), Bastian Schweinsteiger (Germany/Bayern), Yaya Toure (Ivory Coast/Manchester City) and Arturo Vidal (Chile/Juventus).
