Meet Croatia’s First Plus-Sized Model

The first plus-sized model in Croatia says she has no intentions to slim down…

22-year-old Zagreb model Lucija Lugomer, who is on the books at Midikenn model agency in the Croatian capital, calls herself the nation’s first plus-size female model. Lucija has hit the spotlight in Croatia recently, appearing in local media and openly talking about her body image.

Lucija points out that whilst today she is confident and happy with her body image, it was not always the case.

“I needed time to accept my body. As a teenager, I was the most developed and there were many jokes on my account and it was not easy for me,” she told UK’s Daily Mail, adding that she was even admitted to hospital as a teen after experimenting with extreme diets.

But the bubbly 22-year-old has moved on from those days and is now confident in her body and happy with how she looks.

“I love my body as it is and I don’t listen to critics. I am happy to be able to break the prejudices surrounding women’s bodies. After I came on the scene there were many girls with plus sizes calling the agency, interested in becoming a model like I am,” Lucija explained, saying she wore a lot of dresses and skirts as it was hard to find plus-sized fashionable clothing in Croatia.

“In the past I spent endless time trying to conform and lose weight, but now I am happy and just do some Pilates to stay in shape and keep my health up. Some man once said to me: “If you look like this now, what will you look like when you are 40? I ignore stuff like that. I get more positive comments than negative ones,” she concluded.
