Medvescak Sign Former Canadian-Croat NHL Pro

Last week they announced Canadian Mark French as their new coach for the upcoming KHL ice hockey league, now Zagreb’s Medvescak has announced that they have signed former NHL and KHL player Mark Popovic.

Canadian professional Popovic (31) brings a lot of experience to the Zagreb club, who for the first time will play in the strong Russian league.

“Mark is a player with Croatian heritage who has KHL and NHL experience, We are expecting him to be a leader on the ice and in the dressing room, and he has the potential to be our number one defender. Mark is extremely excited to be finally given the chance to come ‘home’ and be part of the Medvescak family.” said Medvescak’s sports director Aaron Fox.

Popovic was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. He signed with the Atlanta Thrasher’s in 2005.
