Marin Čilić has become the second Croatian to reach the Wimbledon singles final.

Čilić booked his place in Sunday’s final with a four-set win over American Sam Querrey 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 7-5 on Centre Court on Friday at the All England Club.

Both big-serving players started strong on serve, but it was Querrey, who knocked out World No.1 Andy Murray in the quarter-final, who would take the opening set in the tie-breaker after both players had earlier had mini-breaks in the decider.

Čilić got stronger as the game went on as Querrey’s first-serve percentage started to drop and he would break the American in the 7th game to take the set 6-4.

Querrey’s 5-setter against Murray seemed to be taking effort and the big American started to make more unforced errors in the third set which a focused Čilić would capitalise on.

After nearly breaking Querrey in his first service game, the Croatian would get the early break in the third game of the set.

Querrey would break straight back and the two would hold serve throughout the rest of the set without any trouble sending it to a tie-breaker which the Croatian would take 7-3.

Needing to win the set to stay in the match, Querrey started strong by breaking Čilić in the third game of the set. Čilić would break back however in the 8th game and then again in the 12th to take the match and advance for the first time to the final at the All England Club.

Čilić now joins Goran Ivanišević as Croatians who have reached the Wimbledon singles final. Ivanišević managed to win one title after playing in four finals.
