ZAGREB, 7 March 2020 – As he has done so often throughout his career, Marin Cilic has lead Croatia to an important Davis Cup victory.

Croatia has beaten India 3-1 to advance into the Davis Cup Finals in Madrid after an impressive display by Cilic on Saturday.

22-year-old Borna Gojo and Cilic had given Croatia a 2-0 lead over India after the opening day of their Davis Cup Play-off match in Zagreb on Friday but the visitors managed to pull it back to 2-1 when they won the doubles rubber.

Rohan Bopanna and Leander Paes beat Mate Pavic and Franko Skugor 3-6, 7-6 (9), 5-7 on Saturday afternoon which meant the tie would have to be decided with the reverse singles.

Cilic was first up against Sumit Nagal, who has an ATP ranking of 127, and the Croatian made sure of the victory with an almost faultless display of tennis.

Nagal could only win one game in the match as Cilic blazed him off the court in under an hour, winning 6-0, 6-1.

The 3-1 win means Croatia has now qualified for the Davis Cup Finals which will take place in Madrid again later this year.
