Marin Čilić and Ana Konjuh will fly the Croatian flag in the second week of Wimbledon after they both stormed into the Round of 16 on Friday.
Konjuh, who is the tournament’s 27th seed, caused a huge upset on Friday when she beat 8th seed and World No.9 Dominika Cibulkova in three sets 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 to advance to the final 16 of the Grand Slam at the All England Club.
Konjuh will play the winner of the Venus Williams and Naomi Osaka match for a place in the quarter-final.
Meanwhile Croatia’s number one player Marin Čilić had it a bit easier as he brushed aside American Steve Johnson in straight sets 6-4, 7-6, 6-4.
Čilić now faces Spain’s Roberto Bautista for a place in the quarter-final.
Croatia’s final singles player still in the tournament, Petra Martić, plays her 3rd round match on Saturday against Zarina Diyas.
