Luka Modrić signs contract extension with Real Madrid

Croatia captain Luka Modrić left the national team camp in Split on Wednesday and fly to Madrid where he signed a one-year extension for his club.

The 36-year-old midfielder, who made his 150th cap for Croatia on Monday against France, will stay at Real Madrid at least until the end of next season after signing the extension today.

“I am very happy to announce that I will continue playing for the best club in the world. It’s been 10 seasons fulfilling the dream of wearing the Real Madrid shirt, but I continue with the enthusiasm and desire of the first day,” Modrić said.

Modrić, who this season led Real to a 14th European Cup, his 5th, has been at the club since 2012, when he joined from Tottenham Hotspur in a £30 million deal.

“Real Madrid and Luka Modric have agreed to extend the player’s contract, who remains linked to the club until June 30, 2023,” the club said in a statement.
