MADRID, 5 October 2019 – Croatia captain Luka Modric has scored his first goal of the season as Real Madrid beat Granada 4-2 on Saturday in the top of the table clash at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Karim Benzema opened the scoring in the 2nd minute before Eden Hazard scored his first goal for Real Madrid in La Liga to make it 2-0 just before halftime.

Modric, who started the match on the bench, came on in the 34th minute and in the 61st minute he would make it 3-0 with a scorcher from 25 yards out which smashed into the top corner.

Modric would receive the ball outside the box and after taking one touch, he would fire with his right foot and send the ball rocketing into the top corner.

Granada would score twice to bring the score back to 3-2 with 15 minutes left before James Rodríguez scored with the last touch of the game to send Real Madrid to the top of the table.

Modric’s first goal of the season comes just days before he leads Croatia in an important EURO qualifier against Hungary in Split. This season, the current Ballon d’Or has started just once for Real Madrid, which was against Celta Vigo. In that match he was sent off for the first time in his career.
