Luka Modrić to stay at AC Milan for another season

23 July 2026 – Luka Modrić will remain at AC Milan for another season after the Italian club officially confirmed today that the Croatian captain has signed a contract extension until 30 June 2027.

The announcement confirms reports from recent days that the 40-year-old Croatian midfielder would continue his career at the Serie A club.

Modrić joined AC Milan last summer and quickly became an important figure in the Rossoneri midfield. During his first season, he made 37 appearances and scored two goals.

“AC Milan is proud to announce that Luka Modrić has signed a contract for another season, until 30 June 2027,” the club said in its announcement.

The club praised the Croatian midfielder for bringing his experience and quality to the team both on and off the pitch, highlighting his humility and passion for the game.

I am happy to stay at Milan, a club where I felt welcome and loved from day one. After a year that did not meet expectations, I am immensely hungry for redemption. A new season and a new challenge await us, a project that I believe in and that motivates me. I am ready to continue giving everything for this jersey and I am truly proud to wear these colours again. I can’t wait to return to San Siro and hear your roar. See you soon, Forza Milan always – Modrić said on the club’s official channels.

Modrić is expected to have a slightly reduced role in terms of playing time during the new season, while continuing to provide valuable experience and leadership to the squad.

AC Milan are currently in Australia for pre-season preparations, with Modrić expected to join his teammates next week.

The decision to continue in Milan also gives the Croatian captain another opportunity to pursue the club’s ambitions after a disappointing end to last season.

AC Milan finished fifth in Serie A, one point behind Como, who claimed the final Champions League place. Modrić missed several matches after suffering an injury towards the end of the campaign, with the club ultimately failing to secure its primary objective.

The Croatian midfielder is now set to continue his Milan journey, with the Rossoneri preparing to compete in Serie A and the Europa League next season. There is still no announcement yet whether Modrić will continue his international career.
