Legendary Film Officially Becomes A Croatian Film

For the last 40-years it was credited as a “Yugoslav” film, but the most expensive motion picture ever made in Yugoslavia, the Academy Award nominated film Battle of Neretva was on Friday officially credited as part of Croatian cinematography.

Battle of Neretva, a 1969 film based on true events of World War Two, will from now on be listed as Croatian film, by a Croatian director, Veljko Buljaic, confirmed Jadran studios.

One of the original posters for the English version of the movie was made by Pablo Picasso, which, according to the movie’s director, the famous painter agreed to do without payment, only requesting a case of the best Yugoslav wines.

Battle of Neretva was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
