Late Croatian music great Oliver Dragojević remembered on birthday

7 December 2021 – Late Croatian music great Oliver Dragojević is being remembered today on what would have been his birthday. 

In 2018, Dragojević lost his  battle with lung cancer and passed away in hospital in Split. Today, the music great would have turned 74. 

“Our dear dida (grandfather), today you would have turned 74 years old. We are sad without you. Lots of love from your family which you loved,” he wife Vesna wrote today on Facebook, posting one of his classic songs – “Kad mi dođeš ti”. 

Many friends and fans joined Vesna by sharing their sentiments on the great’s birthday. 

“Happy Birthday Oliver, wherever you are, I know that everyone around you is as beautiful as we were, you are missed”, He is missed by all of us who loved him as a singer and even more as a man”, “True legend, we miss you Olilver”, were just some of the comments. 

Dragojević enjoyed a career spanning four decades and was considered one of the most iconic musical stars in Croatia and in the Croatian diaspora around the world. He was one of the few to perform at Carnegie Hall (New York), Royal Albert Hall (London), Olympia (Paris) and the Sydney Opera House. 

His solo career really began in 1974 at the Split Festival, where he won with the song “Ča će mi Copacabana”. A year later, composer Zdenko Runjić and Dragojević, released the song “Galeb i Ja” which became a huge hit and made him a household name. 

He followed it up with a number of other huge hits over the years such as “Cesarica”, “Oprosti Mi, Pape”, “Skalinada”, “Zuto Lisce Ljubavi”, “Nadalina”, and”Piva klapa ispod volta”. His iconic songs are still enjoyed decades later.
