When Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković singled out Jere Hribar at the start of January as the “most fascinating result of the year”, it seemed the Split-born sprinter had already completed a fairytale 2025.

Three medals at the European Short Course Championships in Lublin, including gold in the 50m freestyle against France’s Maxime Groussetm, elevated Hribar to national sporting sensation status.

Soon after, he was named Croatia’s Sportsman of the Year by journalists, capping a breakthrough campaign that captured global attention.

But Hribar has not stopped there.

According to the latest all-time rankings for the 50-yard freestyle relay split (SCY), published in February 2026, Hribar has entered the top 10 fastest swimmers in history.

His time of 17.59, recorded during the 2026 SEC Championships, places him sixth all-time, an extraordinary achievement in one of swimming’s most competitive sprint disciplines.

The ranking firmly establishes the Louisiana State University student among the elite of world sprinting.

The list features some of the biggest names in modern swimming, including Caeleb Dressel, Jordan Crooks and Josh Liendo, a reflection of the level at which Hribar is now competing.

For Croatian swimming, this milestone represents far more than a statistical achievement. It confirms that his medals in Lublin were not a one-off success but the beginning of sustained excellence at the highest level.

Balancing academic life and elite sport in Baton Rouge, Hribar continues to develop in one of the world’s strongest collegiate systems. Competing in the United States has provided both exposure and validation, with his latest performance offering powerful American confirmation of his global standing.

Despite the accolades, and now official recognition as one of the fastest swimmers in history over 50 yards, Hribar remains grounded. Those close to him say there is no sense of pressure, only focus. For the 22-year-old, this is just the first station on a much longer journey.

With the 2026 European Championships in Paris fast approaching, Croatia’s sprint star has already shown he belongs among the very best.
