Istria has been named the world’s best olive oil region for the tenth time in the latest edition of the international Flos Olei guide.
The recognition continues a long run of success for Istrian olive oil producers and places the Croatian peninsula among the world’s most prominent olive-growing regions.
The latest recognition was reported in Istrian media following the publication of the Flos Olei 2027 guide.
Several Croatian producers also received outstanding individual scores.
Among them were Mate and Ipša, which were awarded the maximum score of 100 points.
The results add to Istria’s growing international reputation as a destination for olive oil production and gastronomy.
The region’s success has been built around a combination of traditional olive cultivation, modern production techniques and a strong focus on quality.
Istrian olive oil has increasingly become part of the region’s tourism offer, with producers opening estates and tasting rooms to visitors.
Olive oil tourism has also become a wider part of Croatia’s strategy to develop food and wine experiences beyond the traditional summer coastal holiday.
The Istrian peninsula is particularly well suited to olive cultivation because of its Mediterranean climate, soils and proximity to the Adriatic.
The region is home to numerous small and medium-sized producers, many of whom have developed international reputations.
The repeated recognition by Flos Olei has helped strengthen the profile of Istrian extra virgin olive oil outside Croatia.
For consumers, the awards provide a way of identifying producers and regions recognised by an international specialist guide.
For tourism, the recognition gives Istria another global food story alongside its wines, truffles and wider gastronomic offer.
The success is also relevant to Croatia’s agricultural sector, where high-value products can generate greater economic returns than volume-based production.
Istrian olive oil is typically positioned as a premium product, with producers competing on quality, origin and production methods.
