Rab and Lošinj set to be finally connect by ferry

26 January 2021 – There is growing support to establish a regular ferry connection between the islands of Lošinj and Rab in Croatia’s Kvarner Gulf.

The towns of Mali Lošinj and Rab have expressed their support for the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County’s project to establish a regular ferry service on the route Veli Lošinj – Rab – Veli Lošinj.

Both towns are ready to pay 50% of funds for the introduction of the new line, Morski.hr reported.

Despite the distance of only 18 nautical miles between two neighbouring islands, their connection is only available exclusively by charter boat or road, which, given the time needed to transport passengers in this way, is inadequate today.

Today, when traveling from Lošinj to the island of Rab and vice versa, it takes at least 5 hours by car, which would be significantly shortened by the introduction of this line, to just over an hour.

Due to the expressed understanding of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County for this issue, which was jointly initiated by the cities of Mali Lošinj and Rab, Mayors Ana Kučić and Nikola Grgurić supported the establishment of a new Veli Lošinj – Rab – Veli Lošinj line, which they are willing to co-finance with a total of 200,000 kuna.
