Inflation in Croatia in January the highest in the eurozone

In January 2025, Croatia recorded the highest inflation rate in the eurozone, with the annual rate reaching 5%, as measured by the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP).
This marks the fourth consecutive month of accelerating price growth, following rates of 2.2% in October, 2.8% in November, and 3.4% in December 2024.
According to the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS), the annual inflation rate, measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), stood at 4% in January 2025 compared to the same month the previous year, Lider.hr said.
On a monthly basis, prices increased by 0.1% from December 2024.
Breaking down the main components, the estimated annual inflation rates in Croatia are services: 6.3%, food, beverages, and tobacco: 4.7%, energy: 4.5%, and non-food industrial products excluding energy: 0.5%.
Eurostat’s preliminary data indicates that annual inflation in the euro area is projected to reach 2.5% in January 2025, slightly increasing from 2.4% in December 2024.
Among the key inflation categories, services are expected to have the highest rate at 3.9%, down from 4.0% in December. Food, alcohol, and tobacco inflation is estimated at 2.3%, lower than December’s 2.6%, Eurostat said.
Energy prices are set to rise by 1.8%, a sharp increase from 0.1% in the previous month, while non-energy industrial goods remain steady at 0.5%.
