HŽ Infrastruktura has selected Indian company AFCONS Infrastructure Limited as the contractor for what is being described as the largest railway project in the history of Croatia.
According to an official statement issued by HŽ Infrastruktura, AFCONS submitted the most economically favourable bid, valued at €677,055,750.67 excluding VAT.
Once the decision becomes final, the contract signing process will follow. After the contractor is formally introduced to the project, works are expected to last five years and 10 months.
The project includes the reconstruction of the existing railway line and the construction of a second track on the 83-kilometre Dugo Selo–Novska section, one of Croatia’s key international railway corridors.
The project is co-financed through European Union funds.
In addition to the complete overhaul of the existing line and construction of the second track, the works will include the reconstruction of railway stations and stops, the removal or grade separation of most rail-road crossings, the installation of noise protection barriers, and the implementation of new traffic management and railway signalling systems.
The project also includes upgrades and the construction of new elements within the railway power infrastructure system.
Upon completion, trains on the Dugo Selo–Novska route will be able to operate at speeds of up to 160 km/h, significantly improving rail connectivity and transport efficiency in Croatia.
AFCONS, headquartered in Mumbai, has undertaken infrastructure EPC projects across sectors including bridges, flyovers, metro systems, railway networks, tunnels, highways, ports and marine infrastructure, barrages, as well as oil and gas facilities.
