The results are in – after hundreds of thousands of travellers from around the world voted to choose their favourite destination for 2018, our very own Hvar Island, in the heart of beautiful Dalmatia, has placed as the 4th best destination in Europe.

Hvar Island received great support from locals, the media, tourist boards and the strong Croatian National Tourism Board, but also from its foreign guests – 66% of the votes for Hvar were from abroad Croatia.

This was the 9th edition organised by European Best Destinations, and 20 of the trendiest European destinations were selected to take part. The competition lasted 3 weeks and collected 320,793 votes from 162 countries.

The event received great media coverage resulting in over 400 media articles already mentioning the 20 destinations involved in the competition, and the voting page was shared over 30.000 times on social media.

This placement is of great importance for Croatia’s sunniest island – the top 15 destinations from previous elections enjoyed a global growth of tourism of approximately +15% and more than 10 million of media coverage pieces.

During the following year, and up until the next election, the beauty and truly diverse touristic offer of Hvar island – with its active tourism, relaxing resorts, pure nature, historic sites, and vibrant nightlife – will be promoted to more than 5,5 million of travellers as one of the hottest destinations for 2018.

This year, the title of European Best Destination went to Wroclaw in Poland. Surrounded by canals and dotted with more than 120 bridges linking 12 beautiful islands, Wroclaw is also known as the “Polish Venice”.

“We’re looking forward to this season on Hvar – exploring its towns and villages, hidden corners, amazing beaches, thousands of years of history, local tasty food and delicious wine. See you there,” the Stari Grad Tourist Board extends to tourists.
