ZAGREB, 30 January 2020 – There has been huge interest from Croatian fans for tickets to Croatia’s first match at Euro 2020.

Croatia will open Euro 2020 against hosts England at Wembley stadium in London on 14 June at 2 pm local time and according to daily Sportske Novosti, more than 70,000 Croatian fans have requested tickets for the match.

Around 14,400 tickets will be allocated to Croatian fans for the match, which will mean thousands of fans will be left disappointed.

Official data on how many tickets were requested for Croatia’s three group matches, which the requests for tickets closed on 18 December, is not made public.

“As you know, the public sale of tickets to fans of each Euro 2020 national team goes exclusively through the channels of UEFA and the Croatian Football Federation (HNS) has no right to publish specific data related to the ticket sales process. According to what we know, the number of entries for all matches has exceeded the number of tickets available and a draw will be held for all matches, which UEFA will announce by the end of January. We do not have a specific date or time when the draw will be held. UEFA has informed us that there has been the largest interest for the match at Wembley, but only UEFA can communicate accurate figures. UEFA has announced that it will release part of the sales data at the end of the ticket sales phase, although it will not release data for each individual national team,” HNS press officer Tomislav Pacak told Sportske Novosti.

The daily, quoting sources in football circles, said that requests for the England match from Croatian fans outnumber available tickets by 5:1, whilst requests for Croatia’s remaining two group matches in Glasgow outnumber available tickets by 2:1.

The record so far requests for tickets from Croatian fans is Euro 2008 in Austria when there were 213,617 total requests for Croatia’s matches.

For the first time tickets will be exclusively electronic for Euro 2020. Fans have the option to purchase souvenir tickets for 15 euros which means paper versions are also delivered but are only valid as souvenirs.
