A new chapter in northern Croatia’s tourism story has begun with the opening of the Heritage Hotel Terbotz in Železna Gora, located in the rolling wine hills of Međimurje.
The project, led by the Jakopić family, transforms a long-standing winemaking tradition into a modern hospitality experience, combining heritage, premium wines and contemporary comfort.
The hotel officially opened on Friday, 17 April, marking an important milestone not only for the family but also for the wider tourism offer of Međimurje County.
At the heart of the project is the restored Zichy–Terbócz manor, a protected cultural site that has been carefully reconstructed and converted into a boutique heritage hotel.

The property blends historic architecture with modern amenities, offering panoramic views over surrounding vineyards.
The hotel features 16 rooms with a total of 34 beds, each designed to maximise views of the landscape. Facilities include wellness areas, saunas, massage services and in-room jacuzzis, creating a high-end rural retreat.

The Jakopić family’s story dates back to 1908, with winemaking remaining at the core of their identity. Today, the business is led by Branimir and Nada Jakopić, with the next generation, Filip, Martin and Vinko, continuing to develop the family legacy.

The opening ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, who highlighted the importance of family businesses in driving economic growth and investment.
