Heatwave to peak in Croatia this weekend

ZAGREB, 26 June 2026 – Croatia is experiencing an intense spell of summer heat, with temperatures expected to reach their highest levels this weekend as weather authorities issue red warnings for several parts of the country.

Friday brings predominantly sunny and exceptionally hot conditions across Croatia, with daytime temperatures ranging between 32°C and 36°C. In many inland areas, including Zagreb, temperatures are forecast to climb to around 35°C.

Saturday will remain sunny and very hot, with temperatures rising even further.

Morning temperatures will range from 15°C to 20°C inland and between 22°C and 27°C along the coast, while daytime highs are forecast to reach between 32°C and 37°C across most of the country.

Croatia’s national meteorological service (DHMZ) has issued red heat warnings for the Rijeka and Split regions on Friday, while the rest of the country remains under yellow alerts.

On Saturday, the Dubrovnik region will also be placed under a red warning, with much of the country upgraded to orange alerts as the heat intensifies.

Sunday peak

Sunday is expected to bring the peak of the heatwave, with six Croatian regions forecast to be under the highest-level red warning due to dangerous temperatures. Temperatures could reach up to 38°C in parts.

Authorities continue to advise people to take precautions during the hottest part of the day, remain well hydrated, wear light clothing and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, particularly older people, children and those with chronic health conditions.

Forecasts indicate some relief is on the way, with temperatures expected to fall by around 6 to 7 degrees by the middle of next week.
