Hajduk Split and Benfica to Cooperate

gvCroatian football club Hajduk Split and Benfica from Portugal have strengthened their ties this week…

Hajduk Split’s Director of Sports Goran Vučević (above) was in Portugal on Tuesday where he met with long-standing Benfica President Luis Filipe Vieira. The pair discussed the two clubs entering into a sporting cooperation agreement, said Hajduk.hr.

The agreement could see Benfica visit to play Split in a friendly match at Hajduk’s Poljud stadium, as well as other Benfica teams visiting and playing in Split. The friendly with Benfica’s first team would unlikely happen before 2016 as the club sets its friendly schedule one year in advance.

Vučević also met with Benfica manager Jorge Jesus, assistant coach Raul Jose, as well as the club’s head scout.

Benfica is the most successful Portuguese club in terms of domestic titles and have won two consecutive European Cups in 1961 and 1962. Benfica have reached 10 European finals and is ranked among the top 10 clubs in the UEFA club coefficient rankings.
