5 May 2019 – Next month, The Marin Čilić Foundation will be hosting Croatia’s most celebrated athletes in a sporting event unlike any other.

Marin will be joined by fellow Croatian stars for a day of tennis fun. Sports fans will have the opportunity to watch many of their idols show off their tennis skills in an effort to promote youth sports participation and raise funds for a multifunctional sporting complex.

Football stars Luka Modrić, Ivan Rakitić and Dejan Lovren, world champion rowers Valent and Martin Sinković, tennis stars Ivan Dodig, Mate Pavić and Ana Konjuh, as well as swimmer Dina Levačić and Olympic gold medalist Sara Kolak will be joined by other celebrities for the Game Set Croatia Celebrity/Pro-Am Tournament on 12 June at Zagreb’s Šalata courts.

“The idea came about last summer whilst I was training on Korčula. Luka Modrić and Mateo Kovačić were there and we joked how we were missing a fourth player for a doubles match. On Instagram we posted a photo and invited Dejan Lovren and Šime Vrsaljko to join us. A flood of messages came in from athletes and that is how the story begun. We want to give our kids in Croatia a chance to enjoy in sport and the project Game Set Croatia, which I hope will be held every year, will help built sports fields in the most needed regions,” Čilić said.

Through education, sport and encouragement programmes, the Marin Čilić Foundation seeks to provide children and youth with the space and financial support to explore their passions and turn their dreams into reality.
