9 March 2019 – On Thursday 21 March 2019, coffee or tea will be free at a number of cafes across Croatia if you are prepared to come up with a poem, song, lyrics, thought or phrase written on a piece of paper in return.

Croatia will once again be one of over 30 countries taking part in the Julius Meinl ‘Pay with a poem’ initiative to celebrate World Poetry Day on 21 March 2019.

Free coffee will be served all day at more than 250 cafes across Croatia to those who are prepared to get creative.

This will be the sixth year in a row that Croatia has been involved in Julius Meinl’s international Poetry Project. More than 100,000 poems were collected during last year’s initiative in Croatia.
