Free calculator to help sole traders in Croatia work out 2027 tax changes is launched

ZAGREB, 3 August 2026 – Croatia’s Chamber of Trades and Crafts (HOK) has launched a free online calculator designed to help sole traders estimate how the proposed tax and social contribution changes due to take effect from 1 January 2027 could affect their business.

According to HOK, more than 77,000 flat-rate sole traders, representing almost 85% of all flat-rate businesses in Croatia, will continue operating under the same tax conditions as they do today.

The new “Dobro je biti obrtnik” (It’s Good to Be a Sole Trader) calculator allows users to estimate their expected tax and contribution obligations for 2027 while comparing different taxation models based on their projected income and expenses.

The calculator has been developed by HOK’s Accounting Section and incorporates estimated 2027 social contribution rates, based on expected increases in contribution bases, together with the proposed new tax rates.

In addition to calculating tax and contribution obligations, the tool estimates how much income business owners are likely to retain after all mandatory payments, helping them assess which business model may be the most financially suitable.

The Chamber says the calculator is intended to support sole traders as they prepare for the planned tax reforms and make informed business decisions.

HOK President Dalibor Kratohvil said the organisation had secured unchanged tax conditions for more than 77,000 flat-rate sole traders, while the initially proposed tax burden for other groups had also been reduced during discussions on the reforms.

He added that HOK will continue advocating for further improvements to the two highest tax brackets as the legislative process continues.

The free calculator is available on the Croatian Chamber of Trades and Crafts website, while HOK’s advisory services, regional chambers and local trade associations remain available to assist sole traders with choosing the most suitable business model.
