Four Austrian nationals killed in plane crash near Medulin as investigation continues

MEDULIN, 5 June 2026 – Croatian authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding a fatal aircraft crash near Medulin in Istria that claimed the lives of four Austrian citizens.

According to a statement released by the State Attorney’s Office of the Republic of Croatia (DORH), an on-site investigation was carried out following the accident, which occurred on 4 June 2026 in the Municipality of Medulin.

The investigation was conducted by officers from the Istria Police Administration, with the participation of investigators from Croatia’s Air, Maritime and Railway Accident Investigation Agency, as well as a deputy county state attorney from the County State Attorney’s Office in Pula.

Authorities confirmed that four Austrian nationals, born in 1978, 1968, 1986 and 1961, died when the aircraft impacted the ground.

As part of the investigation, examinations and autopsies of the victims have been ordered.

It had previously been established that the aircraft involved in the crash was registered in Germany. The aircraft was travelling from Linz, Austria, to Medulin when the accident occurred on Thursday morning.

Officials said that further measures and investigative actions are being undertaken to establish all relevant circumstances surrounding the incident.

No additional details regarding the cause of the crash have been released at this stage.

The investigation remains ongoing.
