31 foreign police officers join the beat in Split-Dalmatia for summer 2026

A total of 31 foreign police officers from nine countries will work alongside Croatian police across Split-Dalmatia County this summer as part of the international Safe Tourist Destination 2026 project.

The initiative, which has been running since 2006, aims to strengthen safety for visitors while improving communication between police and foreign tourists during the busy holiday season.

The officers will be deployed from 3 July to 29 August 2026. They come from Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany (including Bavaria), the Netherlands, France and South Korea.

The latest phase of the project was presented at a press conference organised by the Split-Dalmatia Police Administration, attended by Croatian officials and the international officers who will take part in joint patrols throughout the county.

Paško Ugrina, Head of Prevention at the Split-Dalmatia Police Administration, said the project is now in its 19th year and has become a successful example of international police cooperation.

He said the presence of foreign police officers helps improve communication with international visitors and provides reassurance to tourists, many of whom feel more comfortable speaking with an officer from their own country.

This year, the joint patrols will primarily be based around the police’s mobile prevention centre on Split’s waterfront (Riva), making both Croatian and foreign officers more visible and accessible to residents and visitors.

Following the press conference, Croatian and international officers met with tourists and local residents along the Riva, highlighting the project’s preventive and community-focused role alongside its operational work.

The Safe Tourist Destination project was launched in 2006 and supports Croatian police by helping prevent potential incidents, improving communication with foreign visitors and strengthening the overall sense of safety during the tourist season.

Information about the foreign police officers working in Split-Dalmatia this summer will also be available through the Safe in Dalmatia online platform, which provides visitors with safety advice, emergency contacts, healthcare information and other useful guidance for a safe stay.

The Split-Dalmatia Police Administration says it will continue carrying out preventive and operational activities throughout the summer to help ensure the county remains a safe and welcoming destination for both residents and tourists.
