The first international passenger train of the 2025 summer season between Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Croatian port town of Ploče has officially started operating.
The train departed yesterday from Sarajevo’s main station, accompanied by a performance from the Željezničar Cultural and Artistic Society, which is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year.
The seasonal train will operate until 31 August 2025, with departures every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Mirza Hadžibegić, Acting President of the Board and General Director of the Railways of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ŽFBiH), shared that last year’s service had a very positive response, with 5,287 passengers using the route during the 2024 summer season.
This year, an even higher number of passengers is expected.
Hadžibegić also highlighted the significance of the “Southern Rail Line,” which has been recognised by international media as one of the top ten most beautiful railway routes in Europe and among the 18 most attractive globally.
ŽFBiH aims to use this route to promote the country’s tourism potential.

She expressed her hopes that passenger numbers on the Sarajevo–Ploče line will double this year.
