American actor Armie Hammer is to star in a new thriller titled The Dark Knight.

Filming officially began today in Croatia, with Hammer himself confirming the news by sharing a photo from Zagreb’s city centre on his Instagram stories on Sunday.

Despite sharing a title with Christopher Nolan’s iconic Batman film from 2008, this movie is entirely unrelated to the superhero franchise.

Instead, it tells the story of a vigilante taking justice into his own hands.

The project is directed by German filmmaker Uwe Boll and will explore themes of justice and vengeance.

Executive producer Michael Roesch has emphasised that their film has no connection to the Batman series, promising a fresh take on the vigilante narrative.

While many plot details remain under wraps, the film is said to incorporate social media as part of its story, hinting at a modern twist to the genre.

This role marks Hammer’s return to acting amidst a backdrop of controversies in his personal life.

Zagreb has recently become a sought-after location for international film productions, with several notable projects choosing the Croatian capital as their backdrop.

Among prominent productions shot in Zagreb recently were the action thriller film Canary Black, starring Kate Beckinsale back in 2022, and the British TV series The Ipcress File.
