Former Croatian international Nikica Jelavić has hit the headlines on Monday after signing a 3-year deal with Chinese 2nd Division side Beijing Renhe for a reported mind-boggling £9 million…

Jelavić has earned himself a healthy pay rise in the move to play lower league Chinese football, despite struggling at West Ham in the English Premier League since he move.

The transfer, and in particular the price tag, which The Sun reports as £9 million, is one of the most surprising of the year. Jelavić, who retired from international football last year, played in only 15 matches for West Ham since moving from Hull for £3m deal earlier this season and found the back of the net just once.

The Croatian striker was officially unveiled by Beijing Renhe after signing a three-year deal on Monday. West Ham agreed a £4m fee with the Chinese Second Division side.
