Zagreb’s Festival of Lights returns with 26 installations across the city

ZAGREB, 9 March 2026 – Spring in the Croatian capital will once again be marked by the return of the popular Festival of Lights Zagreb, which will illuminate the city from 18 to 22 March.

Blending art, design, entertainment and architecture, the festival will transform numerous locations across Zagreb’s historic Upper and Lower Towns into a large open-air gallery of light.

This year’s edition promises an expanded programme featuring 21 locations, 26 installations and 10 international collaborations, bringing artists and creative teams from around the world to the Croatian capital.

The event has also recently been recognised internationally, securing a place on the prestigious list of the best European events for 2026, further cementing Zagreb’s reputation as a growing cultural destination.

Free event across Zagreb’s historic centre

Organised by the Zagreb Tourist Board with the support of the City of Zagreb, the festival remains free for all visitors.

Displays will be spread throughout some of Zagreb’s most iconic locations, allowing locals and tourists to explore the city in a completely different light.

Among the key locations hosting installations are Ban Jelačić Square, Zrinjevac Park, and the Croatian National Theatre, as well as several atmospheric spots throughout the Upper Town.

Visitors can expect a range of immersive and visually striking installations. Some of the standout highlights include:

• Anooki – at King Tomislav Square, featuring the beloved illuminated characters that have appeared at festivals around the world.

• The Fragments – located in Opatovina Park, presenting a dynamic light installation inspired by movement and form.

• Stargate – at Lotrščak Tower, offering a cosmic-inspired visual experience above the historic Upper Town.

• A Poetry and Science Constellation – at Marko Marulić Square, combining artistic expression with scientific inspiration.

• Blue Pulse – at the Gradec Plateau, bringing vibrant waves of light to the heart of the Upper Town.

New festival hours

The festival will also introduce new operating hours this year.

While previous editions began at 18:00, the 2026 event will start each evening at 18:30, running until around 23:00, allowing visitors to enjoy the installations during the city’s most atmospheric nighttime hours.

Over five evenings, thousands of visitors are expected to stroll through Zagreb’s streets and squares, experiencing the city transformed by light, colour and creativity.
