Mošćenička Draga
Long summer traffic queues between Rijeka and Mošćenička Draga could soon be eased by a new sea transport initiative currently under consideration in Croatia’s Kvarner region.
Authorities in Primorsko-Goranska County are exploring the introduction of a fast passenger boat service linking Rijeka with Mošćenička Draga, offering an alternative to the often congested coastal road, Rijeka Danas reports.
During the peak tourist season, traffic along the Adriatic coastal route between Rijeka and the towns of the Opatija Riviera can stretch for hours. The proposed maritime connection aims to reduce pressure on these busy roadways while providing a more reliable and predictable way to travel.
According to Izabela Linčić Mužić, head of the county department responsible for maritime affairs, transport and communications, the main objective is to ease road congestion, particularly in summer, while also improving everyday mobility for residents living along the coast.
Although key details, including ticket prices and the exact travel time, have not yet been confirmed, the concept is straightforward: passengers would be able to bypass traffic entirely by travelling by sea.
For many travellers, this could offer a faster and less stressful journey compared with driving, especially during the busiest weeks of the tourist season when delays on the coastal road are common.

Rijeka
Visitors staying in Rijeka would gain an attractive and convenient way to reach Mošćenička Draga, a destination known for one of the most popular beaches in the Kvarner region.
At the same time, the coastal town could benefit from increased visitor numbers as travellers opt for a scenic arrival by sea instead of travelling by car.
