The 5th Dubrovnik Winter Festival, which opened last weekend in the Dalmatian city, is in full swing with the lighting of the second Advent candle on the weekend.

This year’s winter festival features a number of cultural, musical and gastro events for adults and children at unique heritage sites and venues in the city until 6 January 2019.

Once again Stradun will be the centre for a number of big events during the winter festival. After concerts from Petar Grašo and Prljavo kazalište there will next be live music from Detour (15 Dec), Hladno Pivo (21 Dec) and Veljko Bebek (26 Dec).

New Year’s Eve celebrations will start on 29 December with a performance from the band The Gypsy Kings, followed by Opća opasnost on 30 December before the big Year’s Eve Party on Stradun.

Popular young singer Mia Negovetić and Super cover band will provide entertainment for the younger crowd before Nina Badrić and Toni Cetinski take to the stage. The traditional fireworks display will again take place at midnight.

The first day of 2019 will see the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra perform under the baton of American conductor Marc Tardue with soprano Marija Kuhar Šoša in their traditional New Year’s Day concert entitled Orlando’s Ball at noon on Stradun. Klapa Rišpet will perform in the evening.

The Christmas markets on Stradun feature local crafts, cakes and sweets, whilst kids will have the chance to go ice skating. Christmas carols and traditional Dalmatian songs, along with other music genres will be sung from Brsalje and Stradun to Gundulić Square.

This year too, kiosks offering a large variety of Christmas delicacies and goods will be placed at those locations, where a special music programme will feature Dubrovnik musicians.
