LeBron James, Rafael Nadal and Kyle Kuzma in Dubrovnik with PM Plenković

DUBROVNIK, 13 June 2026 – LeBron James, Rafael Nadal and Kyle Kuzma were in Dubrovnik on Saturday as the city hosted the world’s leading electric powerboat racing series for a second consecutive year.

The E1 Series, officially known as the UIM E1 World Championship, is the world’s first and only international electric powerboat competition.

Often referred to as the “Formula 1 of the sea”, the championship combines elite motorsport, technological innovation and sustainability while promoting the electrification of the maritime industry and raising awareness of climate-related challenges.

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković was also in attendance for the E1 World Championship.

Speaking to the media ahead of the race, Prime Minister Plenković welcomed the return of the championship to Dubrovnik.

He said the state, through the Ministry of Tourism, supports the project because it provides significant international promotion for Croatian tourism. He added that the presence of globally recognised sporting and entertainment figures brings valuable visibility to Croatia on the world stage.

The Croatian Government recently approved preliminary support for the co-financing of the event in Croatia for 2026, 2027 and 2028. Following a request from the Croatia Powerboating Club, the government committed €1 million per year towards organisational costs over the three-year period.

Officials say the project contributes to positioning Dubrovnik as a destination focused on innovation, sustainability and knowledge, while also strengthening Croatia’s international profile as a responsible and forward-looking maritime nation.
