Drniš Pršut Festival returns to this August

The Croatian town of Drniš will once again put its most famous gastronomic product in the spotlight when the ninth International Pršut Festival – Drniš 2026 takes place on 28 and 29 August.

Held at the Antun Mihanović Sports Hall, the two-day event will bring together pršut producers, food enthusiasts and visitors for a programme centred on gastronomy, local tradition and entertainment.

Pršut will be the main attraction, accompanied by other local delicacies, competitions and social events. Evening entertainment will include performances by Mate Grgat on Friday, 28 August, and Hrvatske ruže on Saturday, 29 August.

Drniš pršut is one of the best-known gastronomic symbols of the area and has become an important ambassador for Drniš and Šibenik-Knin County.

Alongside Istrian, Krk and Dalmatian pršut, Drniš pršut holds European Union protected geographical indication status, recognising its quality and links to the region’s traditional production methods.

According to Drago Pletikosa, president of the Association of Drniš Pršut Producers, producing high-quality pršut requires considerable time, knowledge and experience. Each piece is handled many times during the production process, while premium pršut requires at least 15 months to mature.

The festival also highlights the role of traditional food production in supporting local businesses, tourism and the preservation of Croatia’s gastronomic heritage.

Drniš Mayor Tomislav Dželalija said the festival had grown beyond its local beginnings and had become one of the better-known gastronomic events in the Dalmatian hinterland.

The event is organised by the City of Drniš, the Association of Drniš Pršut Producers and the Šibenik-Knin County Chamber of Trades and Crafts.

For two days, Drniš will bring together producers and visitors interested in discovering one of Croatia’s distinctive regional products and the traditions behind it.
