ST. PETERSBURG, Russia – Croatia’s best ranked female tennis player, Donna Vekić has reached the final of the St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy on Saturday.

After knocking out Australian Open finalist and world no.2 Petra Kvitova in the quarterfinal, Vekić has beaten Vera Zvonareva in the semifinal on Saturday in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 to reach her first premier-level final.

Vekić was in great form on Saturday and broke her Zvonareva early to race out to a 4-1 lead. The tournament’s 8th seed was strong on serve and would take the opening set 6-2.

Vekić, who will jump to a career-high ranking of 23 in the world if she were to go on and win the tournament, broke Zvonareva twice early in the second set to cruise to victory.

The Croatian will face world no.8 Kiki Bertens from Holland in the final. Bertens was too good for Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the first semifinal on Saturday, winning in straight sets 7-6, 6-2.
