Dinamo Zagreb U23 beat Southampton to reach final of Premier League International Cup

10 April 2019 – The Dinamo Zagreb under-23 team have claimed another English Premier League scalp tonight to reach the final of the Premier League International Cup. 

After beating Tottenham Hotspur in the quarter-final last month, tonight in England the Croatians have beaten Southampton in the semi-final 3-1 to reach next month’s final. 

Dinamo Zagreb opened the scoring in the 6th minute through striker Leon Šipoš before the hosts equalised in the 22nd minute. 

Goals to Marko Gjira in the 54th minute and Petar Čuić eight minutes before the end was enough to send them into next month’s final where they will meet Germany’s Bayern Munich.

Once again, Dinamo Zagreb’s standout player was Antonio Marin. Marin had a hand in all three goals and showed once again his quality. The Premier League International Cup is competition organised by the Premier League for under-23 players. 

Dinamo beat Porto from Portugal and England’s West Ham in the group stages of the tournament, before beating Tottenham in the quarter-final. 

Other clubs involved in the 24-team competition included Liverpool, Everton, Benfica, PSG, Villarreal and Athletic Bilbao.

Southampton – Dinamo 1-3 (1-1) (6′ – Šipoš (0-1), 22′ – Haimblin (1-1), 54′ – Gjira (1-2), 82′ – Čuić (1-3). Highlights of the goals below.
