Dinamo Zagreb Ban Leading Portal From All Matches

You could be forgiven for thinking that Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson is now consulting at Croatian football club Dinamo Zagreb in his retirement, after the Croatian champions pulled out a ‘Ferguson-esq’ move yesterday.

Dinamo Zagreb have banned one of Croatia’s leading portals, Index.hr, by denying them access to all domestic home matches this season at Maksimir stadium, including UEFA competition games and press conferences. The press accreditation refusal comes after the club accuses the portal of on-going unprofessional ‘one sided’ damaging reporting, especially about the club’s controversial chairman Zdravko Mamic.

The portal will not take the decision lying down, saying it will continue to report from Dinamo Zagreb matches, despite losing press accreditation, and will take the decision up with the City of Zagreb, UEFA and European Union bodies, saying it is a breach of their right to work and the freedom of information. Ferguson was renowned for banning a number of reporters at Old Trafford during his reign at the red devils.
