22-year-old open water swimmer Dina Levačić has become the first Croatian to successfully cross the Ka’iwi Channel.

Levačić, who is from Solin near Split, completed the grueling 42 km swim between Molokai and Oahu in Hawaii on Tuesday.

After setting off from Molokai at just after 6 pm local time and after battling strong currents, strong winds, jellyfish and 1.5-metre waves, Levačić arrived in Oahu to complete the crossing in just over 13 hours.

“Grandma, I made it. Happy Birthday”, Dina said as she posed on the support boat with the Croatian flag.

Only 63 other people have conquered Hawaii’s Ka’iwi Channel.

Dina completed the Triple Crown last year when she swam across the English Channel (34 km), between Catalina Island and the California mainland (32.5 km) and done the Manhattan Island Marathon Swim (48.5 km).

Only 143 people had done the Triple Crown, but only five of those have done it within 90 days at the time Dina completed it.
